Letting Texans Decide on Gaming Will Help Reign in Illegal Gaming Activities

Recently, the illegal gaming room operations across Texas have been covered heavily in the news.  Just this week, two stores closed their electronic gaming systems, known as 8-liners, after a visit from the local police (full story here).

These unlicensed and unregulated gaming rooms attract criminal activities because there is no oversight on the machines or establishments.  Communities have no say over where they are located. They’re not helping communities or following state laws.  As Police Chief Todd Hunter said, “These have been around for years and they continue to try to circumvent the law…That’s why we want to control the spread of it in our community.”

It’s long overdue for allowing Texans to vote on the expansion of legal, regulated gaming in our state.  Putting gaming on the ballot for voters will help curb crime and allow for communities to reap the financial benefits of gambling.  Sign our PETITION today and tell your legislator it’s time to Let Texans Decide.
