Let Texans Decide

Player from Austin Has Winning Hand in WSOP Tournament, Can’t Play Poker at Home in TX

Austin, Texas native Beverly Lange played in the World Series of Poker main event earlier this year.  During a winning hand, Lange was asked by a fellow player if she plays poker often.  Her response speaks volumes to the way many Texans feel about expanding gaming in Texas and being surrounded by gaming establishments in Oklahoma, Louisiana, and New Mexico.

“It’s Texas and we don’t have any casinos…I travel a lot. Go out of state and play [poker] at other places,” said Lange. “All our tax money is going to those surrounding states.  We’ll figure it out pretty soon.”

After her win, Lange proudly stated: “I’m just a girl from Texas that loves to play poker.”  It’s a shame she cannot play in her home state! It’s time to let the voters, like Beverly Lange, decide on expanded gaming at the ballot.
