While Texans burn up Texas roads on their trips to Oklahoma and Louisiana, the Texas legislature is struggling to compromise on funding the state’s transportation plan. Legislators have less than one week in the current special session and Governor Perry has threatened to call them back for a third special session if there is no compromise.
Ironically, many of the roads needing additional funding are those leading to casinos lining state boarders in Oklahoma and Louisiana. WinStar World Casino is straight north on I-35 from Dallas-Ft. Worth — just one of dozens of Oklahoma casinos along Texas borders — and booming Louisiana gaming markets in Shreveport and Lake Charles are a quick trip east on I-20 and I-10.
Expanded gaming in Texas would help fund transportation, and keep Texas money in the state. Find your legislator HERE and ask them to consider gaming revenues to fund transportation infrastructure.
